day 12…Shalom
January 13, 2010 on 4:49 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentSo tonight i fell in love with my husband all over again. I love when this happens.. you get butterflies in your stomach and remember why you fell in love to begin with. We had to go to the doctor because my son was limping (thank god he is ok). After the dr my husband said he had to go run an errand downtown and then run to staples to pick something up for work. I suggested that we all tag along since we were together and he had to work later that night. He said, no he would just take our son and jokingly i said, “why do u have to go get me a present?”… he said , yes, (he remembered something i saw and tracked it down and wanted to suprise me with it ,he is very romantic) as nice as this is, the night gets better. When we got to the subway, he said, ” why don’t you just come, you can try it on”. When we got downtown, every store we passed he said, come on this is it…until we got to the actual store. The minute he put his hand on the door to open it, an older gentleman put his hand on my husbands shoulder and asked him for help, he did not speak much english but he managed to convey that he needed to use my husbands phone, he gave it to him. The gentleman chatted for a minute and then handed the phone back to my husband, the man on the other end of the conversation told my husband he was in his car waiting to pick this gentleman up and asked my husband to point him in the right direction. It was a few blocks away, so we decided to walk him. My son and I were in front of them but I could hear them talking and when I looked back I felt so proud of him, helping this man and being so gentle with him. I could hear them talking, my husband was trying to talk to him in yiddish (the man was from Israel) they were talking about what the man does and about my husbands grandmother. He told my husband what he was doing was a mitzvah and the part I like most is that is not why he was helping him, he is just a super nice guy…the mensch I was lucky enough to marry
. When we found the car, the gentleman said Shalom to the three of us and got into the car of the Rabbi that was waiting for him. We did not wind up getting the other present, but to be honest with you, tonight was my favorite present he ever gave me. Life is funny..shalom
